Importance of Qurbani in Islam
Qurbani has a great importance in Islam and meaning of Qurbani is sacrifice. Every year during the Islamic month of Zill Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal. Muslim Slaughter Goat, Sheep, Cow or Camel on the name of ALLAH Kareem. It is a Sunnah of Holly Prophet Ibrahim A.S and his son Prophet Ismail A.S. According to Islam, one third of Meat portion is distributed to poor people so they can eat meat and become happy and healthy.
The significance of Qurbani
After pray of Eid ul Zuha, people slaughter their animals on the name of ALLAH and meat is distributed to their families, friends and poor people of society. Eid ul Zuha is a great event in Islam.
The practice of Qurbani can be traced back to the Holly Prophet Ibrahim, who dreamed that God ordered him to sacrifice his only son, Ismail. Hazrat Ibrahim A.S agreed and fulfil his dream of sacrificing his only son. But when he tries to cut the neck ok his only son Hazrat Ismail A.S the knife did not work and he could cut his neck. Prophet Ibrahim try to cut his neck many times but knife did not work. Almighty Allah Kareem like his true faith and accept his scarification. But God intervened and sent a ram to be sacrificed in place of Ismail A.S
Eid ul Adha is Festival of Sacrifice:
Eid ul Adha is the second largest festival in Islam. Eid-al-Adha, is a Festival of Sacrifice. It is celebrated during the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar, known as Dhul Hijjah – which translates as ‘Lord of the Pilgrimage’. It is during this month that pilgrims travel to Makkah in order to visit the Kaaba Ullah. Hajj is performed on the eighth, ninth and tenth days of the last Islamic month named Zilhaj. Eid ul-Adha begins on the tenth and ends on the 13th of Zilhaj. In these three days people can slaughter animals on the name of ALLAH.
Distribution of Qurbani Meat
The meat is distributed fresh, frozen or canned, depending on factors such as cost, availability and access, though the majority of countries receive fresh meat. The meat is purchased from local suppliers in order to benefit the local economy. Each meat packet contains on average of three kilograms of meat, which will provide a family of four with meals for about a week.
The is distributed to poor people in form of fresh, frozen or canned. This meat is transferred to the poor countries like, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and African Islamic countries. Those who receive the Qurbani meat include widowed women, orphaned children, refugees and poor, elderly or disabled people. For the majority of these people, meat is not part of their regular diet. The Qurbani meat allows some families to eat meat after a whole year. When poor families receive Qurbani meat, it raises a real sense of brotherhood, love and hope for them and allows them to celebrate this Eid Festival along with millions of other Muslims.
