NGO, the abbreviation of non-governmental organization, is an organization that is non military in nature contributes less in a country’s GDP but more in human development. They are far from governmental influence as they are almost nonprofit entities. NGOS were firstly called in the article 71 of the United Nations that describes how an entity play welfare role in a society or community. They are playing their role well not only on national rather on international level. Some of those are The International Federation of Red Cross, Red Crescent Societies or The World Wildlife Fund etc.
Profound and repeated researches in the laboratories gave birth to a platform, internet. This platform has made the world, ‘a global village’. Due to internet the life of man rapidly evolved and the international development transformed into a totally new thing. In the past, people exchanged their own products to the others who were needy for it in return of the products of their own requirement. Then industrial revolution came in man’s life that changed the total world. People started investing in the productions of factories and industries that were not in the position of establishing their own industry. As the population of the world increased gradually, the number of stake-holders increased. Those stake-holders organized into a group at local, national and international level and became dominant actors in the development arena.
The most basic need to live on this earth is human rights and then peaceful environment which is made sure by the NGOS of that society which it works for. Industrial revolution increased not only stake-holders but also the numbering of poorest and richest people in the world. In this changing world not everyone is lucky to be wealthy and some are highly destined to not be a poor one. Here, the richest are called by NGOS to be a part of them as the welfare institutes of the society and the poor are called for meeting their basic needs of bread and butter. This results in the circulation of wealth as ordered in Islam too.
An NGO directly influences the human nature in explaining the meaning of difficulties of life faced by a compelled man. The most commendable role of NGOs is tackling of social issues on ground realities which lead to societal stability and mobility. The nature of timely taken action makes the NGOs more reliable source of assistance.
There are some social issues that are being tackled by the NGOs of society.
1-poverty
The country, having youth more in percentage than other ages, is facing extreme unemployment that results in poverty. Poverty is not something the lack of bread and butter but it includes the homelessness, hunger, poor health, lack of accessibility to clean water, and good education. An NGO, for the purpose of alleviating poverty, can provide people financial or career help in the form of providing them jobs that can secure their future. Pakistan is endeavoring for against this fight. Seed out and Akhuwat are two prominent NGOs for slacken poverty.
2-Health services
To be more expensive and can’t affordable is the only hurdle for the patients to go for health treatment. The private hospitals and medical institutes says poor people to keep distance from them and the government hospitals are unable to treat all the patients despite doing their well just because of uncountable patients there. Then the only institution that is proved to be available for the weak people is NGOs that provide quality treatment with discount ratios. The examples are Shukat Khanam Medical Cancer hospital and Research Centre, transparent hands etc.
3- Women rights
The essential part of society is woman. But the male-dominant society declares the woman a low- gender creation than a male. Some NGOs played their role in bringing the women out of such oppressive life. A great organization, I.e. Aurat Foundation has been playing a significant role in the development regarding women rights since its foundation. Women are given the opportunities of to be educated, expert in a particular field, and equal in gender scale. Another pillar of support to women is Kashf Foundation, where women are being given loans with low interest rate to run the vehicle of their houses along with the other assistances.
4- Education
In present era, education has become more necessary than to fill one’s stomach. This is only the education that makes a man capable of surviving and earning for is needs. Now the problem, here, is also accessibility to affordable education. According to a report the ratio of children dropping out of schools is high in the rustic areas. So, the NGOs of society have played commendable role in covering the gap of approachability by establishing schools with low or zero cost. The Citizen Foundation and Care Foundation are two major names.
5- Humanitarian services
If we talk about human care, the name of Edhi Foundation can’t be forgotten by anyone. This organization conveyed the true meanings of service. Millions of people have been saved by this tremendous institute in response to any emergent and tragic scenario. Another best name for the services of mankind is Chhipa Welfare Association.
All the above discussed parameters were the solicitous tasks for the people of middle and low-middle class but NGOs tried their best to minimize such issues. Perhaps, the NGOs couldn’t end up all the difficulties in the society but they got success in developing backward areas up to some extent.
